How would you describe Maelström´s music?
It's difficult to describe it in words, because I believe it is very
personal. I would say that we try to make innovative music, with a dark
atmosphere, but at the same time, with guitar riffs and solos. Attitude is
also very important, as we intend not follow trends and fashions.

How did you become the only member and composer in Maelström?
In fact, since the beginning, I have always been the one who composed the
songs and wrote the lyrics; also, the only one who took the band seriously.
The other original members quit the band around 1996 and I decided to do
things for myself, as it was impossible to other find musicians who might be
interested in playing in the band. But now, I have found some good musicians
who will be part of the band, not only as members, but as composers as well.

Are you planning to do shows with Maelström in the future?
Yes, it is definitely, what I most want to do. A band is only a real band if
it plays live. Otherwise, it will be only a studio project, and that's not
what I want for Maelström.

As the band was formed in 1994 and "Maelström" was released in 2001...are
there any demos or old songs that maybe will be re-recorded or released in
the future?
There were some very poor recordings of the first rehearsals, back in 1994,
but I don't even know where they are today. Actually, I had decided not to
record nor release anything until all the songs were composed and I felt the
moment was right to do it.

How important is for Maelström´s music the technical skills of the
musician?
I think it depends very much. The most important thing, to me, is the
musician feels that he is a part of the band, and not an isolated being just
playing his instrument and not caring about the other members. And it
happens with many bands.

Do you have new compositions for a new recording?
Yes. The new songs are almost finished and, hopefully, by the middle of the
next year, we will have already released our new recording.

How are Maelström´s songs composed?
Everything is very spontaneous. The ideas may come out at any time. I always
record new riffs or chords on a music software and, then, start working on
them.

Why did you choose Augustin and Stephano as bassist and drummer? Are they
going to become permanent members of Maelström?
No, now I'm recruiting new members for the band and I believe very soon we
will be able to play live shows. In addition, our website will be totally
remodeled with pictures of the new members until the end of this year.

Which are your main musical influences?
I like many kinds of music, from extreme metal to classical music.

Any final words?
