Powerful and young, this band comes from Sweden, one of the lands of metal. The amazing thing about this band is that it was formed in 2000. And now, one year later they have a promo CD and a debut CD that has just been released. We talked to vocalist Hugo Bryngfors who told us something about the band.

What can you tell me about your debut album "Verdict of Posterity"?

Verdict of Posterity is The debut album of Loss. The goal we had when we wrote the album was "as fast and hard as possible". We believe we got pretty close to our goal. The album was recorded in our own studio Hairy Bones and was more or less written in the studio. VOP contains 8 tracks including the 3 tracks from "Human Decay".

Why was the debut CD recorded on your own studio (HairyBones Studio? Was
it to have complete control over everything?

Partly to have total control of the sound, but also to be able to take whatever time needed without having to bother about limits of time.

Which are the plans of touring when the album is released?

As much as possible, but it all is very dependant on how well the record is recieved.
The only planned gig so far is at the "Dist" Festival in Sweden with bands like
Primal Fear, In Flames, Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, Vomitory and a lot more,
Thatīs going to be cool!

How do you see the evolution of Loss from "Human Decay to "Verdict of
Posterity"

A bit faster, a bit more aggression and we also have worked a bit harder to get the songs
more varied, without losing any brutality. The sound quality has also been improved since the demo.

Why do you think the main characteristic of Loss is "Being a live band"?

The simple reason is that playing live is so damn FUN! Thereīs nothing like standing on the stage kicking some serious ass and the crowd is going wild, nothing can be compared to that!

How is the deal with Scarlet Records? Why did you choose an italian label?

The main reasons we chose to sign for Scarlet are that they are a relatively new and "hungry" label
with a good distribution network. They are also very active with promotion and such. It was also
very positive that the contract was very simple, without any silly legal wranglings, we make music
and Scarlet makes the records and thatīs it. There are also no ties to the label if we would have any
other bands/projects so we have a great deal of freedom.
The nationality of the label is a minor issue, as long as the deal is good, and the cooperation is working.

Which element is more important in your music: power, aggression,
atmosphere, melody or speed?

Aggression and speed are the base that we build from

Do you feel related to some particular scene in Sweden? For example...the
so called Gothenburg scene?

Not really, we are listening to bands from Gothenburg, such as In Flames, Haunted and At The Gates, but also the early "Stockholm scene" with bands like Entombed, Dismember and such. There are many great bands in Sweden and a lot of not so good bands in Gothenburg..like Hammerfall.

What are you trying to reflect in your lyrics?

The lyrics are all about personal thoughts, fantasies, hate and so on. The Lyrics on every track on the album is more or less a reflection of the most primitive part of me.

Which are the bands in which the members of the band played together before Loss? Are those bands still active nowadays?

The only band "still alive" is Mental Crypt, which is an old shool Thrash band, with exactly the same members. Mental Crypt has relaeased one album "Extreme Unction" on Black Mark.
The earlier bands are really nothing much to reflect on, as none ever made it beyond the local stage.

Are you influenced by modern death metal bands or by the classics (first
Slayer albums, Celtic Frost, Bathory, etc.)?

Slayer, yes of course, we are influenced by both older and newer bands like Morbid Angel, early Entombed, Hypocrisy, Terror2000 and Norwegian Black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Emperor.
We all listen to all kinds of metal from Accept to Nile and everything you like put some traces into the music.

Do you think that in the future you will start including cleaner vocals
in Loss music?

Probably not, we already have some clean vocals in the "choir" parts and also as a combination with the screams on Erased but clean "Lead vocals" is not the way we work, at least not at the moment. We donīt want to get soft, you know.

Any final words?

Listen to our record, come to our gigs and bang your heads until it falls off!
