Interview with Rikard, drummer from Killaman

Which are your expectations on your debut album?

-Just basically to spread the name a bit so we can do some serious touring. The response towards the demo we released a good one year ago was great, so if you're into the demo you'll enjoy the full length as well.

How did you got the deal with Displeased Records?

-What I would like to call "the usual way". We said that we wanted to have a demo out before recording a full length, just to spread the name a bit us self first you know... Sent out a couple of demo's and Displeased was one of many labels that showed interest. They were one of the few labels we considered would handle the whole thing in a decent way. Also, I have been I touch with then for years so I know what they are made of so to say...

How was the beginning of the band?

-Killaman started out of the ashes of Murder Corporation. The new songs we was working on wasn't really what we used to do with Murder Corp. and we had a new singer which wasn't sounding like the old one... All in all, it felt to be to much of a change to continue under the name Murder Corp. so we split that up and formed Killaman.

How is the process of composing Killaman´s songs?

-Johan and I are doing the music... Later on will we do a rough demo recording. Mostly only drums and guitar so I have something to work with while doing the lyrics, vocal patterns and all in all...more or less all vocal arrangements. Luckily a friend of us from New Zealand helps us out a great deal with the lyrics. He'll send me lyrics on a constant basis and I'll basically just re-write some of it so it fits within the music.

Why did you decide to record on Berno Studios?

-We have been working with Berno for years now. The Killaman CD is the 8´th or 9´th full length we record at Berno, so it's easy to get something decent done, also it is in my opinion the best studio for this kind of music in Sweden. Mean, it takes me like 25 minutes with car going to the studio so why would we choose another studio?

Which is the equipment that you use live and in studio?

-I have two drum kits... One Pearl Master Custom, 2 x 24" bass, 12", 14" and 16" toms and one old fucking 80´es Sonor kit, 2 x 22" bass, 13", 14" and 16" toms. Rather odd sizes of the toms but that's how I bought it... Managed to get my hands on it very damn cheap. I used the Sonor set for the Killaman CD. I think Johan only used his Kramer Nightswan for all of the guitars... He also used his Mesa Booge 2025 and Mesa Boogie Triaxis and 2 x 2 x 12" Mesa cab.'s. Can't remember what we used for the bass... Live... We haven't done any shows yet so... Ha, ha, ha... I guess it'll be like usual, whatever the booking agency rent for us you know.

Which are the band´s main influences?

-Main inflences... I hate to mention any specific bands but I guess it would bands like Repulsion, early Extreme Noise Terror, Nuclear Assault... I don't know. Whatever we'll hear and see you know...

How would you compare your 2002 demo with the debut CD?

-It's pretty much the same really except from the fact that the CD sounds so much better. Not that the demo sounds any bad but the CD are all in all better produced and all that...

Any final thoughts?

-Thanx for the int. Be sure to check the CD out!!!
