1- How would you describe your music? Is it fair to say that is a mixture of death metal, black metal and thrash metal?

Chris: That's fair to say. We call it death/thrash ourselves but there's some other influences too like some black metal indeed, maybe some grind and traditional heavy metal as well.

2- How was received "Storm of the Horde" by the press and the people?

Chris: Excellently! 80 points in average, sometimes even the maximum score! Those reactions are really overwhelming! A lot of people all over the world seem to like it.

3- How would you compare "Storm..." with the "Promo 2001"?

Chris: All songs of the "Promo 2001" have been re-recorded for the album. They are a bit faster and sound much better now. I wouldn't say the promo was giving a good idea about everything Katafalk has to offer (perhaps "Birthmark 666" did). On "Storm Of The Horde" we show much more!

4- How were the songs in "Storm..." composed?

Chris: I wrote ten songs, our old bassplayer wrote two songs and our new bassplayer wrote one too. I write songs at home and work them out with the rest of the band in the rehearsalspace. Some songs on the album we already play for years, the oldest is "Rise Now" from the 1997 demo.

5- What are "Storm..." lyrics about?

Chris: There are some fantasy stories which have the usual metal subjects, like "Succubus", "Birthmark 666", "Storm Of The Horde" and "Baptized In Fire". Also there are some reality lyrics. Most of them are about being free, being yourself and not taking shit from anyone. And a big fuck off to all kinds of sorry people! "Cannonfodder" is the strongest statement: It's about social outcasts joining the wrong kind of groups just to belong to something, taking over their stupid ideas. They will used and eventually get rid of, like cannonfodder.

6- Which is your equipment live and in studio?

Live we use Marshall amps and cabinets. I own a JCM800 amp , Pier a JCM900. Michiel has a Tama Rockstar drumkit with DDrum triggers and Iron Cobra pedals, which he used in the studio as well. We used Mesa Boogie for the guitars on the album. We don't use pedals and plug our guitars straight into the amp. Henk still needs to get himself a decent bass amplifier. I have EMG pick-ups in my BC Rich guitar.

7- Which are your memories on the tour with God Dethroned?

Chris: Man that was a great experience! We did gigs all over Holland and one of the last gigs was in our hometown Groningen. The venue was packed and the crowd was really loud! We had a lot of fun, we even thrashed a dressingroom together with God Dethroned at one venue. It was really cool and Henri of God Dethroned liked our shows, so he offered us a record deal on his label CBI afterwards.

8- Which are the bands that influenced you the most?

Chris: 80's thrash like Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator, early death metal bands such as Possessed, Death, Morbid Angel, Entombed. Later on bands like Dissection and Emperor. Some traditional heavy metal as well, like Iron Maiden.

9- Something more to add?

Chris: Thanks for the interview! Everybody take a listen to 'Storm Of The Horde', drink beer and bang your heads! Check our website www.katafalk.com for news, tourdates, downloads, merchandise and other stuff! Cheerz!
