What can you tell me about your new album "Ocean Of the Lost"?

lv: it is the logical next step, depending on the work we did so far - not
only that it reflects our present technical standard, but also the lyrics
follow
consequently the path that has started with 'floodland' on our first demo
and will lead us into 'decay' (work title for our next cd) and in the end,
all will start from the beginning...

8o8: it's another big step in our development. the first time we had a
producer. it was a nice time recording it, and for me, it was a time to
learn. "ocean of the lost" is a good album, i think.

burn: Well, maybe there should be mentioned that this is the "second
edition" of the album, because our former label went bancrupt and now we
have a new label called wait and bleed, which decided to relase "ocean of
the lost" again, this time worldwide. it was recorded in summer and fall
2000 in zirovnice (czech republic, close to the austrian border) and
contains 15 songs.

2-It seems that you are a really workaholic band...you recorded a demo CD on
2000, then "Ocean..." in 2001 and you are working now on new songs ... Are
those for a new album in 2002?

burn: we try to do our best to have an regular musical output. the new songs
are written for the next album which will (maybe) called "decay" - but they
have to stand the tests of our producer and our label manager before ...
recording
is scheduled to take place in later spring, early summer this year.

8o8:
making music is something where you can't say "now i'm writing a song". time
flew by since we recorded "ocean of the lost" and creativity has no
understanding for making a break. without control, new ideas want to get out
of your mind, turning to new songs. so we surely will record in 2002.

3-
How different is the new album compared to "The Now and Here is Never"?

lv: i don't think it is too different, for it's still rock & roll, but maybe
looked at
from a - although i do not like that word so much - more modern base ...
after
all it is, like the record before another walk across the floodland ...

l.f.o.: we tried out much more things than for the last album. we
concentrated a lot on the atmosphere of each song. there are
some...experiments...on "ocean of the lost". it is less what they call
"eighties-style".

8o8: i remember we had much more time, more song material, new ideas, better
equipment and different, new sounding influences while we worked on "ocean
of the lost". and i think these are some of the reasons, why the new album
sounds more modern and powerful than "the now and here is never".

burn: the songs on "ocean of the lost" are a lot more diverse, and of course
they sound much better - due to professional recording and mastering ... on
the other hand we should have made progress in terms of song-writing ... at
least we do hope so ...

How has been "Ocean of the Lost" received by the media and the people?

lv: usually via stores, mailorders or on the black market ... no, only
joking ...
but, to be honest, i do not care so much about the reviews, although it is
nice
to read good ones or hear people talking about our work ...

burn: the manager states: overwhelming! we had really fine reviews on all
the german and austrian gothic magazines like "gothic", "sonic seducer",
"zillo" or "orkus" - and as well very good reviews in the internet on many
webzines all over the world (sideline and kryptsonic in belgium,
krepusculum, silent scream and vampiria mag. in italy, radio politika in
yugoslavia, divus modus wave forum from switzerland, amboss in germany,
musica reservata in chile, himnos rituales de guerra in colombia, la mision
de los eternos in argentina and some more) ... also our fans tell us that
they like the songs on "ocean of the lost" very much, so we are really
interested what the people in argentina will think
about the new material ...

8o8: we can see it in some magazines, that people, who listen this kind of
music, like our work, too. it's a good feeling, when you can read such good
reviews about an album you worked on. and i try not to lose the focus on
music, to make, like before, a step towards a higher level with the next
production.

5- How have been up to now Floodland´s ?

burn: äh, what? do you mean career? *ggg*

lv: if you mean our band-bio, well, have a look at our homepage under
http://www.floodland.org

808: well,.. i will try to answer this question like beavis: ....
ööööhhöhöhöööhööh, hhm?

6- What are the lyrics in "Ocean of The Lost" about?

burn: well, the lyrics all deal with the big ocean of emotions, if you know
what i mean - all kinds of feelings from love to anger, hate, sadness and so
on. each song should show a different spectre ...

lv: as burn said, most of the lyrics deal with snapshots of things that we
see, feel, love, hate or imagine. every message is wrapped in a more or less
complicated story and the more you are willing to discover, the more it
might tell you ...

7- How do you see in retrospective your "Chapter One" demo CD?

8o8: the first demo we ever done. for me it is something like cult. i do not
listen
to it many times, but it reminds me to another good time we had. a time i
never
want to miss. to grow up in a band-unity, and watch floodland transforming
to
adulthood is like taking care of a baby that comes to age.

l.f.o: it was quite what we were able to do then. we had a lot of fun. and
still it was not a too bad start for us. even then our direction was clear,
i think.

burn: ahhh, good one. when i listen to "chapter one" nowadays, if have to
hide my laughing ... no, to be honest, it is a typical first demo of a band
- very rude, and not very well elaborated. Although i naturally still like
it!

lv: i do NOT agree with 808 and burn, for me this demo is maybe just the
beginning, but who knows how the songs would sound if we'd record them
nowadays. to my opinion the song remains the same, only the presentation
might change ...

8- What can you tell me about the extreme music scene in Austria?

burn: there is one, definitely, but it is very hard to get through, because
we are a really, really small country. but we know some quite talented bands
which follow our tracks - no names quoted here ...

808: yes, the music scene exists. but like in every country, you have to
work hard and walk a pathless way when you want to get well-known. even more
in Austria, because the market is very small. and if you haven't a name like
famous bands or musicians, the audience will stay away because of the
oversupply of events every evening.

9- Do you prefer to be considered a gothic band or a dark metal band? Do you
care about this labels?

burn: first of all, we do not like these labels at all - we want to make
just good music, OUR music, and we hope that we find a lot of fans all over
the world, who dig this music, too. but to make it easier for promotion and
marketing guys, we call it "neo gothic rock", so that they have a direction
to think in.

l.f.o.: if i had to choose, i'd prefer gothic to metal. but i agree to burn.
i like to consider our music just dark and atmospheric. if it fits the label
"gothic" for some, then its alright with me. people need to compare ...

lv: i prefer being called a human being that uses music to communicate
with
all the other creatures that dwell that planet, especially with those who
give
a damn about labels...

8o8: yes, i do. there need to be labels, so that people can categorize our
music. BUT, ... it's the task of every single person who listen to our
music, to find out, if he/she likes it or not. and therefore you need not to
be compared to
any musicstyle.

10- Which are your main influences?

burn: we are four guys, and each one of us has his influences. chris, the
singer, is a classic gothic, who grew up with sisters, mission and admires
david bowie, harald, the bass-player likes cure, the gathering and some
others, our drummer markus is very much related to electronic music and
i come from the alternatvie rock scene and really like bands like smashing
pumkins, bauhaus, radiohead and so on.

l.f.o.: not to forget depeche mode, for my part ... but when we talk about
influences, then we may not only mention some certain musicians. everything
that arrives in our mind effects our work. it deals with music as well as
with other kinds of art. painting, literature, cinema, and so on. and then
daily media (ab)use. radio, tv, papers, internet. and not to forget one's
own moods, which depend on partnership, health, seasons, weather,...

8o8: Like burn already said... electronic music takes a big part in my life
as a
musician. sometimes i cross certain borderlines of some bandmembers with my
electronic stuff. but, honestly, i like this music very much. i cant't deny
these influences, and i want to bring them to our music. an important person
once said, "don't be afraid of something new" and so i try to give even
grotesque ideas a chance.

lv: if asked about music the bands already mentioned, plus the doors and
the fields of the nephilim, but generally through the world around me ...

11- Anything more that you would like to add?

burn: yes! it was a pleasure doing this interview and hopefully we will see
each other some day to have a few drinks and a nice chat on music and
everything else that really matters in life ... stay dark, Argentina!

l.f.o.: do not let others make your opinion. consider yourself what is good
for you. and please do not talk of metal when you think of "neo gothic rock"
and floodland. *g*

808: --------sorry, no bonus----- *gggg*

lv: proceed on the way you believe being the best for you and maybe - if
our paths should ever cross, we will meet on the floodland, someday,
somewhere...
