1- How has been "Subterranean Movement" received in the underground?
Hello there Federico! Hope all goes well? Since the album was released on the 28th of June, it's a bit early to tell, but judging from the response here in Norway, the album seems to come as a positive surprise to everyone.
2- Why did you choose Displeased records to release "Subterranean Movement"?
The reason for choosing Displeased Records is very simple. We sent them demo of three tracks, Charge of the I, Slaves of one Tongue, and Our Justice be Done. They were very impressed by the material, and they offered Enthral a record deal. After a few emails back and forth regarding different points in the contract, both label and band felt satisfied. We very also in contact with a few other labels, but we felt that Displeased was the right label for Enthral. Hopefully they will do a great job for the band!
3- Why did it took so long to release a new album after "The mirrors opposite end"?
Hmmm, a bit difficult to answer really. After the release of "The mirror's......", we mainly focused on new material, recording demos etc. None of that material has seen the light of day! That album was also the last one we did for Hot Records, which was our label at the time. 6 months later, Espen Simonsen decided to leave to band to concentrate 100% on his studies. Shortly after that we also lost our rehearsal studio, and as you can see, things then began to move very slowly. We searched for a new place for 7 or 8 months, and finally in january/ february 2000 we found a very suiting place located far away from people in order to concentrate 100%. The composing for new material then began. We also spend a lot of time on the arrangements for the songs. It's very important that everyone in the band can stand behind the riffs, arrangements etc. As for labels; we were in contact with Necropolis Records, but they were nothing but a bunch of big-mouthed losers, with no brains. They still owe us money for our participation on their King Diamond Tribute. Also others can be mentioned, but that's just a waste of time and space for your readers:)
4- Do you think that on "Subterranean..." Enthral has incorporated more elements such as nordic folk or classic metal?
I certainly don't hear any nordic folk influences, and I wouldn't go as far to say there are many of the riffs that are reminiscent of classic metal. I think we can say that the music on "Subterranean Movement" is more of a blend/mixture of different styles of metal that we are influenced by, black metal, death metal, thrash metal, heavy metal etc.
5- Which is the most important aspect of Enthral´s music? Melodies, speed, aggression or dark atmospheres?
All four of the aspects you mentioned really. In order to create "music" all of those aspects must be taken care of. Many bands of today doesn't seem to care for that as they just blast away in 250 bpm, thinking they are in race or something:)
6- How did the participation of Stian Aarstad change your music?
Well, in the period of 1997-1998 we were looking for a keyboard player, and we were very happy when we first got him into the band. In retrospect I don't regret our use of keyboards the way we did back then (why should I?), but the music got a bit softer, which I'm not too satisfied with. On the new album he does a great job as a session player, mainly focusing on atmospheres.
7- Is Ingrid Skretting participating on "Subterranean..."? Will she be featured in your future albums?
No, and that will for sure never happen again. On the album all vocals are performed by me. Ingrid Skretting is a pop singer today trying to find her way among the mainstream people.
8- DO you have plans of touring to support "Subterranean..."?
Yes, we have plans, but nothing is scheduled yet. I guess that we'll do quite a few shows here in Norway as autumn approaches. Email Displeased, and tell them to put us on a tour in Argentina. That'd be great!
9- Can you explain a little bit Enthral´s lyrics?
I like to let the listener decide for him-/ herself. Sorry for being so short about that, but I want people to read the lyrics. But I can add that they are very personal, and give you a look into the abyss of the human mind.
10- Something more to add?
Well, I just want to say thanks for your support, and I hope your readers found this interview interesting enough to check out the band! You can contact Enthral at:
