Interview with Alberto, Embryo´s bass player

Why do you call your music "melodic death metal?
Well man, melodic death metal is the label that describe better our
sound, nothing more, nothing less! We have for sure a compact and
aggressive sound, even if melodic, and our production can be classified
as "melodic death" metal linking it to the Swedish scene, for example;
but we have many influences, and in the new stuff the listeners can
find a more powerful style, maybe less "thrashing" and surely violent.

Are you recording new material?

We're going to publish in September a new 3-tx promo, just for media
and labels; it features a complex mixture of technical, violence and
melody, in a modern and (we hope) personal way. A new song is available
for the download on our website, and the feedback 'till now by the
people was great! We really look forward to this promo to let our
band's name goes around the whole underground!

How important are the keyboards for your music?

The keyboards are important to construct complex and original songs,
without stopping at the typical backgrounds on the guitar riffs and
creating particular arreangements in every track. Our guitar player
follow a 360° style, cloning the guitar, or playing special sound
effects, or simply building the songs's structure. In the first
demo, "The source of hate", the keyboards' role is enough simple, with
piano parts or keys solos joining the guitar playing; the new songs
have a huge spectrum of uses of this instrument, following the more
compact songs.

Which is the most important element of your music: brutality, speed, melodies?
Each one in equal parts: we have to admit that we're running towards
brutality lately, but not by forgetting our melodies, without which we
could resemble every band of the world... also speed is a very
important element to create the right attitude, but not indispensable:
we can have slow tracks too, without any kind of problem.

How was received "The Source of Hate" in the european underground?
We're really glad of the feedback we had not just here in Europe, but
also in other places like South/East Asia, Australia and of course
America! The great responses permit to us to play next month in 4
foreign countries with local support bands, and we had our demo sold
out! We're promoting the band intensively on the european field, with
the help of a lot of underground 'zines; now we wait to know the
comments about our new material!

How do you compose your songs?
Mainly the ideas start from Uge, our guitar player, who have a
death/thrash background emerging directly from the early '80s: then we
arrange them during the rehearsals with keys and later with the other
instruments. We have all a part in the writing process, to contribute
to the strength of the song, even if the main composer is often Uge.

How did your music change when Alberto entered in the band?
Hehe, I could reply "hugely" but it's not true... simply I added my
tastes and style to the well defined Embryo's style... I have many
influences, from the brutal death 'till the rock, and I try to write
bass parts a bit particular and original, like all the music we play.

What are Embryo´s lyrics about?
Roberto, singer and lyrics writer, is inspired by some human concepts,
like the hate and the effects it can have on insane minds... all "The
Source of Hate" is builded on that way of thinking. The emotions inside
a critical human subject, which suddenly explode to the world around,
and the consequences they can bring. So the lyrics follow the musical
themes of the songs.

Which are your favourite bands nowadays?
We have a lot of favourite bands: surely Meshuggah, At The Gates,
Death, Dark Tranquillity, but also brutal or black acts, known or not.
Lately in our playlist there is the new "Nothing" by Meshuggah, still
more violent and psychopathic then the previous "Chaosphere"!

Something more to add?
Well, thank you a lot for the interview; I would invite the readers to
visit our website on
http://www.hatewithin.cjb.net and to listen some

you are around a location in which we'll play in, just come to see us!
