From Spain comes this power metal banda in its more symphonic vein. This band has reached a big popularity among lovers of the style and they are going to release a MCD. I would like to thank Gabriela Sisti from Nems Enterprises to get Enrik García to answer te questions
.
In which aspects do you consider that you got better comparing "Shadowland" with "The Hall of Olden Dreams"?
There is a big difference in production and in the quality of the songs, also the cover art and the layout of the CD is much better in ``The Hall´´, the truth is that a lot of people has been surprised with our progression as a band.
What can you tell me about "The Hall of Olden Dreams"?
Mainly that we are really proud and happy with this record, speaking for me I can not find nothing negative on it. We recorded the album with producer Luigi Stefanini who has worked with bands like Labyrinth, Athena, Domine.... he made things easy for us because of his big experience and because he understood perfectly what we needed, the truth is that is not easy to record our music because of all the orchestration and choruses but Luigi did an excellent job. For the cover art we got Andreas Marschall and as you can see, is really good, for me he is the better artist. Talking about sales, the album is doing really well in countries like Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Brazil.... our label has made a really big effort.
How different are your two CDs compared with your three demos?
I will remark that our first demo was recorded with another singer, those demos were recorded thinking in acquiring experience and opnly the first was sold `` Tales Of The Dark Moor´´, ``Dreams Of Madness´´ and ``Flying´´ were only used to present us to recording labels, there is people thatwant us to release them, but for the moment, we have them only for us.
I know that you are planning to release a mini CD...Which kind of material are you going to include on it?
Yes, it is called ``The Fall Of Melniboné´´ and includes the songs ``The Fall Of Melniboné´´ that is a song of more than 10 minutes, and ``Wood´s Song´´ that is a ballad, we included the version of ``Halloween´´ that was included on the tribute album ``The Keepers Of Jericho´´, ``Silver Lake´´ from our album ``The Hall Of The Olden Dreams´´ and ``Cuentos De Ayer Y De Hoy ´´ that is a versión of a spanish band called Ñu and as a curiosity I will tell you thta this is the first time that we have recorded in Spanish, this mini Cd will be released in June, in the begining will be released in limited edition in Spain.
What can you tell me about your participation in the tribute to Helloween?
It has meant a lot for us because the revies were very positive and it gave us the chance of being discovered by a lot of people that had not listened us before, we recorded ``Halloween´´ because is our favorite Helloween song, we played this song even before recording our first Cd, Helloween has been always one of our favorite bands.
Do you think that Elisa´s voice is the most distinctive element in your music?
It is a really important factor in Dark Moor´s music, besides, she is incredible live. In fact, everybody is important in the band an there is no place here for egocentrism or believing that we are important, we have always worked with humility and we are always willing to talk to our fans.
Why did you decide to sing in english? That is different from what most of spanish bands do…
Our influences have always been bands that sing in English, so we decided that our lyrics would be in that language, and that closes some doors in our country, but the most important is to do what we want and not sacrifice our way of doing things even if doing that we sell more in our country. In the future if we like to do something special, as recording some songs in spanish we will do it, but for the moment we are not going to change and if we do it will be for a special edition.
How does Elisa sees the growing role of women in metal bands such as Nightwish, Theatre of Tragedy, the Gathering, etc?
She feels tht is really good, logically. Elisa has been in Dark moor for many years and in the beginning it was quite difficult for her because there were not many women in metal but I think that is really good that we leave prejudices behind, because a women can make metal music the sam or better than a man.
How important is the influence of Rhapsody in your music?
We have been playing since 1994 and our music has not changed a lot, they always tell that about Rhapsody, to deny that I like them would be a lie, I like them a lot but not more than bands as Children Of Bodom or Nightwish.
Are you planning the recording of a new album? How is it going to be?
We have already 5 songs, I think that we will record 12 , 10 for the normal editiona and 2 bonus tracks for Japan and Korea. On october 31st we will travel to Italy and on November 1st we will start recording again with Luigi, we will be there one month and then the masterization will be done in Finnvox Studios (Stratovarius,Children Of Bodom, Nightwish), I think that we are going to search for a more direct sound and obviously it will be Dark Moor, I am saying that we are not going to change our style. The cover art will be done by Andreas Marschall again. Regarding the lyrics it is not going to be a conceptual album, we will talk about different things.
Something more that you want to add?
Thank you very much for the interview, Federico and we hope to play there when we release our next album.
