We have reviewed the "Unbroken" release of this crushing modern thrash metal band and now we have this "Strength through Vengeance" that shows many improvements, specially in sound. The band delivers crushing riffs through all this album developing really intense tunes that are designed to show sheer aggression to the listener. This power is achieved using thrash metal riffs played with a really modern sound and emphasizing a lot the rhythms delivered by the tight rhythm section. The guitars have a huge sound that makes each note played by them an experience in pure brutality. One element that I like a lot from this band are the killer guitar solos (sometimes with wah wah) thata re like a composition within the composition, delivering interesting ideas through all this recording. Kevin Randel is a versatile singer that knows how to fit the mood of the song in a style close to the one by Phil Anselmo but with a lot of identity. He can scream at the top of his lungs in the more devastating parts and in the more climatic parts he can do more atmospheric lines. One essential feature in this recording is the good mix that it has, specially on the guitars and the drums, making the band sound like a thrah metal machine from hell . Pure aggression !!! |

Tracks: 1- Delirium tremehens 2- New Day denied 3- Cold Anxiety 4- Forgotten memories 5- Suffering Voices 6- Obsessive Sanity 7- Endless Worlds 8- Unexpected life |
Starting powerfully but at the same time atmospherically with "Delirium Tremehens", Adimiron shows how a band can be aggressive and at the same time have infinite arrangements done with incredible musicianship. Combining death metal with thrash metal passages the band delivers here eight tracks that are full of complexity and virtuosism. The band is in a similar style to bands like Atheist, Cynic or Believer. that is, death metal with a lot of experimentation an with huge technical skills. The guitars play incredible riffs and solos that add melodies to the music contrasting with the heaviness of the rhythms and the vocals. The drumming is intense with plenty of tempo and rhythm changes, showing the virtuosism delivered by this guy. the sound of the band is compact and loud making this an enjoyable listening for those who love listeningf new ideas in the metal realm. |

Ajalon is pure progressive music full of melodies and arrangements. To my mind comes some names like Marillion or early Genesis when lsitening to the music here. Here we have plenty of clean and acoustic guitars that develope passages full of beauty. The thing that is evident here is that this guys have really good musicianship. And that becomes evident in the harmonies, in the solos and in the keyboards arrangements that are all over the songs here. The vocals here are clean and using a middle range that I like more than the high pitches used by other vocalists of the style. And this guy delivers also melodies thata re the core of the compositions. There is some pop influence in some of the tunes too, specially in the lighter tracks. The best composition here for my taste is the title track which is over 16 minutes long and has a lot of arrangements that show the good musicianship that this guys have. Master Rick Wakeman is adding some solos on "What Kind of Love" and "Forever I Am" adding his personal keyboards sound. The sound is crystal clear as a band of this style needs to let the people listen perfectly their multiple musical arrangements. A band that shows that progressive rock is not dead. |

Andralls is with no doubt one of the most powerful bands from South America. Their music is thrash metal with some death metal elements but with strong eighties influences and a really modern sound. Here we have a recording where each guitar riff is created to destroy the listener. Fast rhythms are all over the place here without reaching blast beats but always keeping an emphasis in the heaviness of the rhythms with strong use of double bass. But the main thing here are the loud guitars which have a crushing sound making each song an experience in heaviness. The vocals are of the extreme type needed in this style of crushing thrash metal. I have to remark the good sound that this recording has that makes the overall result more direct and crushing. A devastating thunder coming directly from Brazil |

I have never heard this band before and I have to say that I was surprised by all their brutality. While I expected more of a modern metal band I found out that this band´s music can be labeled as something like technical brutal death metal. I mean, the band is really brutal with guttural and screaming vocals and with crushing guitars, but at the same time they have good technical skills that allows them to change from riff to riff and from rhythm to rhythm doing multiple breaks and tempo changes. Here is where the tightness of the band becomes essential and the band shows how to achieve a compact sound. Specially I liked the drummers role using a lot of cymbals and also blast beating at times. He also uses the double bass like a maniac.Leo Miller is a demented singer whose voice can go from guttural growls to scream in less than ten seconds adding a maniac feeling to the music. I have to remark the guitar and drums sound that are carefully mixed achieving moments in which you are faced by a wall of crushing sound. A bestial release. |

What a good surprise !! If you look at the cover art with sort of a humorous egyptian drawing you could imagine that this guys are classic heavy metal or power metal. Wrong !!! This is pure death metal with crushing guitar riffs and growling vocals. There is strong emphasis in the brutal rhythms here and the band does not abuse speed preferring to create more crushing guitar riffs and interesting drumming patterns instead of doing some chaotic fast line. I have to remark that there are multiple changes in tempo and in rhythms and riffs here being this characteristic a trademark of Anksunamon´s sound. The vocals are well developed using the growling voice in the more rhythmic parts and the screaming one in the fastest tempos. The sound of the recording is raw yet powerful giuving a feeling of old school death metal to the music. This is pure death metal with classic influences and devastating ideas |

Apocalyptica has evolved a lot since the time thaye were doing Metallica covers. And they have achieved a style of their own where the essence is the combination of rhythmic cellos (that sound almost like guitar riffs) with cello melodies that create the main phrases of the composition. They have added a rhythm section to their music since some previous album, which adds more heaviness to their music,. And on this album we have also vocals in some tracks delivered by the singers from Him and The Rasmus that give a killer feeling to this compositions.. Tracks like "Life Burns!" (which is one of my abolute favorite on this album) reminded me to later day Sentenced showing the vocal approach that this finnish guys have. The combination of instrumental tunes with others with vocals add more variation to the music here making the listening easy and enjoyable. |

Pure thrash metal with killer german eighties influences. As this style needs the main thing here is the combination of good guitar riffs with powerful rhythms. And that is evident since the beginning of "Child Soldier", a track full of riff changes and with crushing thrash metal rhythms in the vein of Kreator, Sodom or Holy Moses. The goal in Armistice music is to achieve pure aggression through their songs. And they have achieved it on this album full of crushing tracks. The vocals are raw and extremely aggressive sounding clear yet really extreme and fitting really well the thrash metal spirit of this recording. The rhythm section is solid and they deliver perfectly the rhythms and patterns needed in this style of extreme music. The recording has a raw sound letting you feel all Armistice´s power in a really violent way. Armistice shows here that thrash metal is alive and kicking and evolving into a new generation of musicians !! |

|
A long intro called "When Medieval Winds Crossed the Land" opens this release introducing the dark atmosphere that will reign through all the recording. Then "Regina Montium" enters showing all the black emtal power that this band unleashes. The band emphasizes dark atmospheres instead of simply doing fast riffs. And this atmopheres are achieved through interesting keyboards progressions and also through guitar riffs that deliver this type of riffs that have that intrinsic melodies that unleash darkness and give a lot of power to the music. Don´t get me wrong, here we have also many blast beats but that is not the trademark of the band because they go well beyond that element. I really liked for example the opening of "The Drink of power" that includes a really powerful riff combined with a dark melody and also a more guttural voice before getting into the blast beat. And one remarkable thing is that the keyboards emphasize the blast beats doing some fast phrases (check "The Drink of Power"). The use of atmospheres and dark melodies in a sort of viking metal style make each of the tunes delivered here trully memorable. The sound of teh recording is raw but loud and clear letting you feel all the power and darkness that Arth releases. Pure black metal combining classic elements with many original ideas !! |

As I Lay Dying is a band that has been a growing name in the metal underground. Their music is a mix of death metal with some metalcore elements that give as a result the original sound that this band has. Add a couple of modern metal elements like the clean vocals and you will have the As I Lay Dying sound. What I like most from this band are the guitar riffs that combine the fast one used by death mental bands like In Flames or Dark Tranquillity with others more rhythmic like the ones used by many metalcore bands and also with others that add harmonies or twisted arrangements to the music. The vocals here are most of the time of the growling type used in this styles but ocassionally going into higher pitches and sometimes into cleaner vocals that add some melodic lines to the music. I have to remark the good sound of the recording, specially on guitars and drums. A powerful release that will appeal to lovers of modern day metal. |

Coming directly from Brazil we have here this heavy / power metal band with powrful guitar riffs and catchy melodies. The band has influences of bands like Helloween, Stratovarius, Angra and Yngwie Malmsteen, that is pure heavy metal bands. The singer here has a lot of personality with a wide vocal range that allows him to reach high pitches without failing to reach the exact note. the guitars deliver powerful riffs and also show good musiicnship in the solos (here we have clever note palcement and harmonization, not only neoclassical runs and stuff). And we have good keyboards arrangements in tracks like "Shadows" that emphasize the epic feeling of the compositions. The sound has nothing to envy to the main bands of the style, sounding compact and loud. Pure heavy metal coming directly from Brazil !! |

This si a really special release because it consists in an audio CD full of Ataraxia´s music and a book that tells about the band´s thoughts and feelings based on Francesca´s writing and also on Ferruccio Filippi (the journalist writing) thoughts. Starting with the amazing "Cobalt" Ataraxia soon shows why they are one of the best bands in the scene of this melancholic style of music. Here you have plenty of arcane melodies, plenty of ancient like vocal lines. And we have here the talent of Vittorio Vandelli creating passages full of beauty on each of the tunes. There are some keyboards creating dark atmospheres and adding beautiful arrangements to the compositions. We have new tracks here like the aforementioned "Cobalt" and also "The Island of Docteur Moreau" that show that Francesca´s voice has no boundaries creating beautiful melodies with her wide vocal range that has enchanted us since the first time that we listened her. Fans of the band will love this one because it gives plenty of material to enjoy and to collect. This is definitely a crushing death metal bands. THe good thing is that they have achieved here pure heaviness and brutality without using cliches of the style. in fact, they have achieved though intense drumming and with a combination of huge guitar sound and a rhythm section that is tight as hell. Besides, here we have guttural vocals but used very rhythmically in tracks like "Surveillance System" emphasizing the brutality of the music. The guitars construct the main song structure with an extremely heavy sound that combined with the bass creates a huge wall of sound. With some elements of thrash and old school death metal they achieve a result of pure intensity. The sound of the recording is loud and direct emphasizing all the aggression that is Autere´s trademark. THis is death metal full of brutality where every idea is designed to blast you. |

Auticada is pure melody and arrangements that show a lot of good musicianship and good song construction. The music can be defined as progressive metal in the vein of bands like Dream Theater, Pendragon; magellan and others. On this album there is a lot of place for virtuosism and for multiple ideas within a song context. It is remarkable the role of the keyboards here that orchestrate and arrange each secons of this compositions. Riccardo Roverso´s voice is really clean and it is essential here because he developes good melodies that give a lot of feeling to the compositions. I have to remark how good the rhythm section is because it is evident that the drums and bass are not here only to support the rest of the band but also to add their own arrangements as they do in tracks like "Dimentica" or "Aurea Parte 1". Each song here is a challenge of multiple ideas and incredible melodies that will soon stick in your mind. Pure progressive metal full of virtuosism. |

This is a multimedia CD-Rom containing eight tracks of audio Autopsia is a band that has 25 years and that keeps on experimenting ina grate way with dark sounds and atmospheres. Can their music be described as gothic? Maybe, but I think they go way beyond that style emphasizing atmospheres and climatic passages full of keyboards and amazing arrangements. Every one of the eight tracks here is a pure experience in darkness where different textures are developed in order to achieve the ultimate atmosphere. In tracks like "Joy of Chaos" we have also a programmed drum that adds a completely different feeling to the music, remaining dark, but adding a weird pattern to the music. In fact I think that the music here would be perfect for some kind of gothic horror movie because it has the perfect feeling to fit a darker than hell story. The CD-R has plenty of bonus files like discogrphy, screensavers, interview, pics and more. A killer band that constantly experiments with atmospheres and intrincated musical passages. |

Judging by the cover I expected sort of a doom or balck metal band. But here we have a band that unleashes guitar riffs of the black metal style with full speed and aggression but at the same time uses an extremely brutal voice of the most guttural type. There are also some hellis black metal vocals tht are used in the parts where the guitar riffs are more catchy and where the subtle meldies are developed, giving a dark atmosphere to the music. The band is fast but in tracks like "One With the Universe" they go beyond black metal using unconventional riffing and rhythms before getting into blast beats and brutality. The sound of the recording is loud and direct letting you feel all the aggression unleashed and also letting you here the amazing guitar work that is developed on this album. A good thing is that this guys have added some live tracks that let you feel all the bestiality that the band unleashes over a stage. A dark yet extremely brutal release !! |

Every time that you listen to a Blackmore´s Night album becomes evident why he left Deep Purple and why he has not released a Rainbow album for almost ten years. It seems that now he enjoys doing this kind of acoustic music with many european folk features and to explore this path with her wife on vocals. Good musicians are supporting Ritchie here and that is evident on the arrangements of each of the compositions. We have also a cover of Joan Baez "Diamonds and Rust" (I prefer the Judas Priest version) and also of Jethro Tull´s "Rainbow Blues". The music here is full of melodies and lovers of this style will certainly enjoy it. |

Pure unholy black metal with extremely raw sound. Here you have plenty of compositions with faster than hell blast beats and extremely distorted guitars. The guitar riffs are extremely fast and would not have been place in the classic norwegian black metal bands of the early nineties. The drumming is extremely fast with plenty oif blast beats and with heavy use of fast patterns that give an almost chaotic feeling to Blasphemous music. The vocals are really extreme in teh vein of the most extreme black metal bands, fitting really well teh aggression and the darkness that the five compositions have. The sound is really raw and I think taht with a better mix the band´s ideas can be better heard and the aggression will be multiplied. Pure black metal in its rawest and most extreme form. |

With strong emphasis on crushing rhythms and guitar riffs this band unleashes pure brutality over the listener. The good thing is that to achieve this brutality the band has not sacrificed their technical playing that is evident through all this recording. Specially I liked the interaction between the guitars and the drumming where both play really tightly the multiple changes in rhythms and the breaks that the band does so solvently. The vocals are guttural but they sound clear letting you follow what they are doing. And they are used almost like another brutal instrument to add heaviness to the music. The bass replicates really well some of the guitar lines sounding almost like an extremely downtuned guitar and making things even more compact. The recording has a good mix where all the isntruments sound loud and clear and none of them get buried by the other ones as happens with other bands of the style. Pure brutality |

An extremely aggressive band from beginning to end the guys in Blot Mine have combined elements of both black and death metal to achieve a really extreme release (even if I think the sound is mainly black metal here). The vocals are really extreme here, and they give a lot of the black metal sound here being of the screaming type. I like that the band sounds really well rehearsed, specially in some of the breaks and changes that are on compositions like "Evil Intent" where the tightness of the band is needed in order to achieve correctly the desired change. There are plenty of fast parts here in the norwegian black metal type but always retaining that dark feeling that this type of music must have. The sound of the recording is raw and direct giving you a live feeling (I have to say that this release was recorded several years ago and now is remastered to make it available to the underground fans). If you like vocals that are essential to add darkness to the music, here you have Roberto Teodorico´s. There are tempo changes and also use of some more thrash rhythms that add a more mid paced feeling to some of the tracks. But the main thing here is to devastatre the listener with huge guitar riffs and with crushing rhythms delivered by the drums. Some riffs here and there add a darker feeling, such as the ones in "Blood Saturnalia" and there are also some short solos that are really welcome. Extreme vocals are all over the place here, some of the screaming black metal type and some of the most growling kind used mostly in death metal. To sum up, Burial In Sulphur is a band whose goal is to crush your brain, and they have surely achieved that with this demo. |

With many different influences the guys in Car Bomb have managed to deliver here extreme compositions that have at the same time a modern sound and also a true rhythmic core. Besides having a clear hardcore and modern metal influence the band has many death metal influences like some of the blast beats played in "His Eyes" and also some of the most growling vocals. They have included multiple breaks on each of the tunes and they have also included multiple vocals of different types, some closer to say Sepultura or Machine Head, some more of the screaming type, some high pitched screams . And they have also included some weird sounds that give a different feeling to the msuic. The main thing here are the rhythms that are constantly changing but always remaining aggressive as hell. A powerful yet weird release. |

Cardiac Arrest start fastly delivering all their aggression with "Demon", a track that starts heavily and then gets a strange riffs that soon turns into a crushing one that delivers heaviness and aggression. The music of the band is difficult to define because they have a sort of thrash metal sound but mixed with some death metal influences and also with some more rhythmic riffs that look like doom in the vein of Saint Vitus or bands of that style. So, here we have a band that is extremely powerful and that has no boundaries going from one brutal style to the other. Here we have guitars that sound really heavy and that work really well with the aggressive vocals that are all over the four tunes here. The rhythm section is fast and compact adding more power to the music. The sound is raw and direct with a loud mix that lets you feel all the power unleashed here. Now we want a full length from this devastating band. |
