I would really like to thank Heather Parsons from Metal Blade for making this interview possible
How was received "To Serve Man" in the underground?
Travis: Pretty well so far. It's cheap so they can't
complain about that! I think alot of people see that
there's still a big grindcore influence in there. Just
the songs are longer.
Are you completely satisfied with the new album or would you like to change something?
Travis: there are always parts musicians want to
change after it's too late on their recordings. There
are a few things, nothing big.
Why did you choose to tour with GWAR? Which are your expectations on that tour?
Travis: Cause it's GWAR! haha... they asked us and
we'd be dumb to turn it down. We like to have fun
first and foremost and I can't think of a better time
to be had than to tour with a band like Gwar. It shall
be a monumentously hellish trip. I just hope our fans
come out to help fend off the people that are just
there to see Gwar.
What happened in Germany with the cover art of "To Serve Man"?
Travis: The distributor refused to carry it because of
their past experience with Cannibal Corpse and other
bands with graphic art. It's really not that bad. It
just sucks it's not as widely available there now.
It seems that Metal Blade is doing a lot of promotion for you. Are you
happy with your new label?
Travis: Yes. We're very pleased so far. They're very
artist friendly and as long as you're down to earth,
they'll help you as much as they can.
How were the songs in "To Serve Man" composed?
Travis: Troy wrote alot of it. Him and Dave mostly.
Troy is a riff machine. He's got a ton of stuff in his
head. Basically writing 1-2 songs a week and then
spending alot of time perfecting them.
How important is brutality and speed in your music?
Travis: Brutality is definitely important, but mainly
in the imagery and the pace of the song. The songs are
very melodic and not just crushing noise, which I'm
actually a fan of, but it's not what we do. Speed just
comes with the territory.
How would you describe a Cattle Decapitation show?
Travis: Pissed.
Which are the band´s main influences?
Travis: I like the sound of toilets. I think they're
pretty brutal and it's nice to try to emulate that
sound they make just as the flush finishes. Josh is
really into black metal, Troy loves power metal and
Dave is a metal machine. Strictly death metal.
Something more to add?
Travis: Stay gore, eat human. Thanks!
