Interview with Chris Reifert (drums / vocals) and Danny Coralles (guitar)
"Through the Cracks of Death" seems to be a more complex album than "Tormented" was. Was this done conciously?
Chris - yeah we worked, plotted, drank, thought, smoked, planned and freaked out, and were inevitably able to harness fleeting insane ideas
Danny
- Abscess is constantly evolving, a work in progress, Abscess started as a drunken mindless escape from any kind of structure or pretentious concepts or anythingfor that matter! just pure guts! well now we've learned to bend time and space and take your mind to new doors of perception! we wish to mangle your reality and set you free!
Despite the heaviness and deathly feeling of the songs here Abcess always have some melody or rhythmic riff that make the song unique....how are this ideas developed?
Danny
- someone presents an idea then like a Gran Prix pit crew we all attack the song, adding, changing, manipulating, but eventually you must let the song write itself! Chris - we put a lot of emphasis on song writing so the bastard gets under your skin like sadistic acupuncture!
Why did you decide to record "Through the cracks..." in the same studio were you recorded Autopsy´s "Mental Funeral"
Danny
- working with the professionals at the fur brings out the best in you, no matter what you throw at them, they can handle it, and they'll stay all night to get the job done!Chris
- cause the fur rules!
How have been the live shows on the tour up to now?
Chris
- no tours yet, but our eyes are crossed!
Did all the songs from the "Open Wound" demo and the rest of the demos end in Abcess albums or is there any unreleased material that you are planning to release in the future?
Chris
- give us a year or two and will put out a sick mother fucker of a release with all the rare E.P.'s and shit. it will kill I promise
Are you producing other bands apart from Murder Squad?
Chris
- we also do "The Ravenous" and once did "EatMyFuk"
How do you see the early Autopsy days now, years later?
Danny
- I see them slip further into the past, those wereobviously some of the greatest times of our lives, the tours, the shows,
the other bands! we simply wanted to make the brutalist most devastating
music of all time! hopefully we came close, but were far from finished
yet, and the sickest is yet to come! Autopsy was only the beginning!
The cover art in "Through..." and "Tormented" seem to be darker and stranger than the one in for example "Urine Junkies" or the Autopsy albums. Is this a change that you have done on purpose?
Chris
- we really wanted life to imitate art and visa versa Miran Kimfilled in the cracks of death in her own disturbingly brilliant way, don't ya think ?
Any final words?
Chris
- check out the album, i stand behind theguarantee that says Abscess is law, and remember nothing makes sense,
especially me, except some of the time and who knows if this is one of
those times or not! Danny will hate typing up this question, Ha Ha Ha!
see you in your hallucinations!
