Abaddon Incarnate´s music been labelled as grind core and death metal. Which do you think is the style that fits your music the best?
A good question, one that arises quite often. Our history began as a Death metal band and we got more and more extreme with time becoming a very grind orientated band. Our songs become shorter and mostly we are using blast beats and fast punk beats with a double pedal. Our guitars are noisy as fuck not clean distortion like many death metal acts, Hate Eternal an example of a shit sound I hate. We use duel vocals one growl and one scream which sounds like grind as well. But our foundations are in Death metal and I always love this music, true Death metal blows me away man. I went to see "Krisiun" the other night they were fucking awesome. But there is so much shit out there that fucks it up for us all. We all started the band listening to Morbid Angel "Altars..." Deicide "Deicide" and Immolation "Dawn of Possession" But we listening to the old Earache bands like Terrorizer, Napalm and that stuck as well. A testament to what we do now.
Now that "Nadir" is on the streets...are you completely satisfied with the album? Would you have changed something?
No its spot on. You can come back from a studio and discover many things you abhor about what you have created. But these things make it unique. Its in a league of its own and stands apart from the crowd. Not generic like much of the big acts nowdays.
How would you compare" Nadir" with "The Last Supper"?
Its very difficult to compare these because "Last supper is a death metal Album primarily and of course Nadir is Grind core. For us Nadir is a far more mature effort we made the songs better written more focused and aggressive and we had Cory on Bass so he wrote some tunes. Nadir is far superior if you listen yourself you may agree. But a lot of people here in Ireland still prefer the Death metal sound we used on "The last supper" but it just sounds like everyone else.
How do you see the evolution of the band comparing the new tracks to the ones in your 1996 two-track sampler?
Well we recorded that 2 track sampler and realised we had already come a long way from our 1995 effort "When the Demons Come" we were blasting and started the grinding screams we still use today. When we got our record deal it was our first time to record in a different country. (Finland Tico Tico) And it gave us experience to choose wisely for Nadirs recording. When we started to tour Europe it brought the band to a new level. We can take pride in our band now We come a long way from recording 2 songs in a punk studio in Dublin's City Centre to touring Europe, releasing 2 albums, and reaching far shores such as yourself with trew our music
Why did you choose Sweden´s Soundlab Studios to record "Nadir"?
Listening to Nasum, Exhumed and Genocide SS we said to our selfs " Man This Cunt (meiszko) really knows how to record noisy music" So we sent him an E-mail to see what the story would be with reording there. It was Viable so we grabbed the next plane out and went. Fucking best thing we ever did. Swedan is a buetifull country man. And Meiszko knows his stuff.
Which are the bands main influences?
Well I mentioned earlier some of the bands we started out with like MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, IMMOLATION. But others would be POSESSED, DEATH, PESTILANCE, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS, now we listen to shit like REGURGITATE, NASUM, BRUTAL TRUTH, PIG DESTROYER, AGOROPHOBIC NOSEBLEED and other undergrond shit we trade or get sent like weve been listening to BIZZARRE EMBALMING and INGROWING being 2 of the these.
What can you tell me about the first two demos recorded when you were called Bereaved?
We really sucked. Those days are best forgotton. But nothing that embarresing can be forgotten It was a time before I was playing guitar in the band as I only joined as a vocalist. And we had this other TiT playing kinda Anthax, Suicidal Tendencies, Megadeth style riffing and Bill was trying to keep it together playing Death Metal. Our old drummer Sucked as well. He left and we got Olan which started the ball rolling like a kinda purge of all the crap in the band which leads to the answer to the next question.
Why did you decide to change your name to Abaddon Incarnate?
We had a new drummer, and we got rid of the thrash Guitarest and I started to play instead. We were reborn so we decided to ditch the name and become ABADDON INCARNATE.
Which have been your better live show experiences up to now?
We played a show last night it Ruled. We toured Czech republic and that was awesome. Actually, not to sound big headed but, all our shows are killer. We just seem to have that live vibe thing going that people pick up on. We played a MTV college Competition years ago with a lot of nice, crap middle of the road ass fucker bands to win a crate of beer and we won. So even MTV assholes can see through our noise.
