(NEMS 269)El proyecto denominado Cornerstone se formó en torno al bajista y compositor Steen Mogensen (Royal Hunt) y al cantante Dougie White (Rainbow). Ambos, reconocidos talentos del hard rock mundial, se juntaron a fines de 1999 para trabajar en este álbum que cuenta además con numerosos invitados de lujo.
Steen Mogensen nació en Copenhague (Dinamarca) y comenzó su carrera musical a los trece años, tocando la guitarra en diferentes bandas dinamarquesas de hard rock. A comienzos de 1988, Steen se unió al tecladista Andre Andersen y le dieron forma a Royal Hunt. Luego de nueve años de grabaciones y giras con esta banda, los miembros del grupo decidieron tomar un descanso, por lo que Steen se aboca a su nuevo proyecto, Cornerstone. La dirección musical pronto se inclinaría visiblemente hacia los terrenos de Deep Purple, Saga, Pink Floyd y Queensryche...
Dougie White nació en Escocia, y formó la banda Midnight Blue antes de formar parte del mítico grupo Rainbow, en 1995, con el que grabó el disco "Stranger in us all". Dougie aceptó de inmediato la propuesta de Steen, y viajó a Copenhague a grabar las voces de "Arrival".
Este álbum impresiona desde el primer momento por contar con canciones que son potenciales clásicos de hard rock, de melodías gancheras y una ejecución instrumental admirable por parte de todos los músicos. El mismo Andre Andersen participa del disco con varios solos de teclados, mientras que el resto de la banda se completa con Jacob Kjaer y Tony Rahm en guitarras, y Allan Sorensen en batería.

New CD Release Wires and Wooden Boxes (PR90252/EE03)
"Wires and Wooden Boxes," the new CD from Ernesto Diaz-Infante and Chris Forsyth, was actually recorded in real time in the same room. This would be unremarkable, if not for the fact that their first CD, "Left & Right," was recorded in separate studios in separate cities. Long distance duets, they called it. However, "Wires and Wooden Boxes" is a further departure from their pure two guitar sound on "Left & Right." For the new release, the duo incorporated piano, percussion, and an upright piano soundboard, as well as guitars to expand their sonic palette. The results are a varied combination of jagged, percussive guitar duets, free jazz inspired piano/guitar romps, and meditative post-Feldman piano joined with the electric static of a guitar's input jack.
Both players approach the guitar in unique and interesting ways. Ernesto Diaz-Infante uses alligator clips, extreme alternate tunings, screwdrivers, bells, and other objects to elicit a wide range of timbres from his acoustic guitar. Chris Forsyth produces a similarly amazing range of sounds with more conventional equipment: electric guitar, amplifier, volume pedal, and distortion box. It may sound like two Lonnie Johnson records played simultaneously at different speeds, it may sound like a swarm of flies dancing in your ears, or it may just sound like noise.
Diaz-Infante has previously teamed up with Jeff Kaiser for last year's "Pith Balls and Inclined Planes" CD on the pfMENTUM label, as well as four solo piano CDs on Pax. Forsyth has received acclaim for his work with All Time Present, whose most recent CD is "Good Vibrations / No Expectations" on the Evolving Ear label, and with W.O.O. Revelator, whose most recent CD is "Theory of Reversed Effort" on Sweetstuff Media. Both Diaz-Infante and Forsyth will also be appearing on the forthcoming "Rev.99" CD, by saxophonist and poet 99Hooker on Pax Recordings.
Chris Forsyth is a Brooklyn, NY based electric guitarist who plays improvised music. His ongoing projects include ALL TIME PRESENT (with Toshi Makihara, Rich Gross, Ethan Sklar, and David Gould), W.O.O. REVELATOR (with Bonnie Kane and Ray Sage), DJALMA MOVEMENT & MUSIC ENSEMBLE (with Neel Murgai, Jeff Gburek, Rich Gross, and Ephia), and a duo with ERNESTO DIAZ-INFANTE. These groups have performed throughout the United States since 1997, and have releases available on the Evolving Ear, Sweetstuff Media, and Pax Recordings labels. In addition, he has performed in NYC with Loren Mazzacane Connors, Assif Tsahar, Daniel Carter, Mike Pride, and as a solo curated by Derek Bailey. Chris has studied with Richard Lloyd and Joe Morris, and he is the curator of the Bunker Annex Series of improvised music at the Knitting Factory in NYC.
Ernesto Diaz-Infante received an MFA in music composition from California Institute of the Arts, where he studied with Stephen L. Mosko and Wadada Leo Smith. He has worked in residence at the Centre International de Recherche Musicale (CIRM), the Villa Arson (both in Nice, France), The Millay Colony for the Arts, Centrum, Villa Montalvo, The New York Mills Arts Retreat, The Ucross Foundation and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony. An active performer, improviser, and composer of instrumental chamber music, he has had performances and radio broadcasts all over the world. His music is recorded on Bottomfeeder, Evolving Ear, InstrumenTales, Pax, pfMENTUM, Sweet Stuff Media, and Zzaj. Ernesto Diaz-Infante has performed/collaborated with numerous musicians including Dan DeChellis, Bruce Eisenbeil, Chris Forsyth, Boris Hauf, Bill Horist, Bob Marsh, Dick Metcalf, Donald Miller, Kurt Newman, Nmperign, Blaise Siwula, W.O.O Revelator and Jack Wright.

(NEMS 230)Polímetro es una banda de metal-progresivo oriunda de Chile, con un nombre nuevo, pero con una larga y exitosa trayectoria. A comienzo de los noventa la banda parte haciendo música muy relacionada con referentes clásicos del heavy metal y a mediado de los noventas comienza a incluir elementos del rock progresivo, generando una rica y virtuosa mezcla muy acorde a los nuevos tiempos, bajo el nombre de Metrópolis.
En 1997 graban y autoproducen en disco compacto "Bajo las sombras", el primer Ep de la banda conformado por tres temas: "Episodios", "Finjo ser fuerte" y el corte que lleva por nombre el corta duración. El disco fue muy bien recibido por el público y los medios de comunicación, contando con un gran apoyo por parte de la desaparecida Radio Concierto en Chile, la que dejó en rotación el tema "Episodios".
En 1998 Metrópolis no se dio tregua y decide entrar nuevamente al estudio para grabar "Fábulas de horror", el nuevo Ep de sólo dos temas: "Fábulas" y "Luz y sombra". Radio Concierto una vez más apoya al grupo y mantiene en rotación el tema "Fábulas". Tras el continuo éxito de Metrópolis la posibilidad de abrir el show de grandes bandas se hizo realidad en 1999, ya que el 18 de marzo tocan junto a los finlandeses Stratovarius y el 17 de abril comparten escenario con los brasileños Angra, ambos en un estadio Monumental lleno.
En agosto del mismo año comienza la preproducción del disco debut, esta vez para el sello Musicland, con quien firman contrato por tres discos. Finalmente entre noviembre de 1999 y febrero del 2000 graban la nueva producción en los estudios Procor digitalmente en 32 pistas, masterizado y mezclado con equipamiento Pro Tools.
A fines del año pasado, la banda recibe una amarga e inesperada sorpresa. La noticia era que por motivos legales no podían seguir usando el nombre de Metrópolis, ya que existía otra banda que tenía registrado el nombre y en un juego de palabras deciden llamarse Polímetro (Metrópolis al revés). Por lo mismo, titularon el nuevo álbum simplemente "Metrópolis". La producción del disco estuvo a cargo de Andrés Godoy y Kike Yorio fue el ingeniero de sonido, dos personajes que han trabajado en dichas labores desde los inicios del grupo.
Participó al Tributo a V8, interpretando el tema-Tiempos Metálicos.

Finally our newest release is out! "...Completely Dead.", so the title of the album, is the farewell CD of Germany´s mighty R.U.Dead?, which sadly split-up in ´98! Everybody should be familiar with that cult band, which includes former Poison members that released the infamous "Into the Abyss" MLP (Midian Creations)! The CD features material from over 10 years, including a total of 12 songs in 68 min., taken from their ´91 demo "Individual Horror", "Hypnos" 7" ´92 (Morbid Records), "Nothing Will be Forgiven" MCD ´95, "A Thought Before the Kill" MLP ´97 (limited to 200 copies!) and an unreleased song from March ´98 (the last recordings ever done)!
"The style of the band has it´s roots in the music of Germany´s POISON which played Black/Death Metal long before it became a trend (´84-´87) and is therefore refering mostly to the Thrash/Death/Doom happenings of the 80´s (Slayer/Pestilence/Death/Coroner/Trouble/Venom etc.) without trying to be "retro" or "True Metal". The main goal of R.U.Dead? was to write powerful/heavy/RAW material with quite some variaton but without trying to follow any kind of trend like crossover, so-called "Gothic Metal" or Black/Grind-Noise bullshit"

"If ever there was an example of real Thrash/Death Metal for the 1990´s, this is it. In a scene that has become so acrimonus and self-righteous, R.U. Dead? retains the age old Thrash Metal values of no pretense, no blast beats, no gimmicks and delivers (...) uncompromising and utterly devastating Thrash. Several things (...) leap out at you immediately. First of all, R.U. DEAD? knows how to write songs. They don´t just string riffs together like the Death Metal riff parade we´ve been subjected to over the last seven or eight years. R.U.
