Interview with Tristessa from greek metal band Astarte
1- How was "Quod Superios, Sicut Inferius" received by the press and the people?
The last album has take the best grading from magazines and from the sales I can say that it has
reach a very satisfying result in a very short period. Generaly I can say out of fans reaction that the last album has take the best reviews comparing to previous albums.
2- How would you compare "Quod..." with "Rise From Within"?
We are talking about two total different albums. Different mentality, attitude, atmosphere and
influences. In the "Rise from.." the style is more epic and melodic. It has extreme tempos and it sounds melancholic. In the " Quod .." we have adapt everything into nowadays, it sounds like an aggressive soundtrack of our age with more technical parts and influences from bands like Uriah Heep, Eloy, Metal Church, Iron Maiden..
The differences are not only in the music , but also in the production where the last album sounds clear and raw and finaly the image is different. In the previous album we go back ourselves into Amazonian times and in the new we are more adapt into nowadays in a sexy attitude.
3- How was the process of composition of the tracks in "Quod..."?
First we record the drums, then follow the electric guitars, then the acoustic and clear guitars, after
the bass, the vocals and finally we record the synths.
All the three of us equally make the music and I write all the lyrics.
4- Which is the most important side of Astarte´s music: brutality, dark atmospheres or melodies?
Melodies and emotion.
5- How did you got Spiros from Septic Flesh to do a guest vocal appearance in "Quod..."?
We know Spiros for many years ago. We appreciate very much his brutal voice and we made him a proposal to participate as guest in two of our tracks. The corporation was great from both sides as always.
6- Which are your memories on the "Doomed Dark Years" recording?
At that times black Metal had a total different attitude and I think that this album was the one that
rise the band and make us continue. It was a pure album adapted to the spirit of that age.
7- Which is your equipment live and in studio?
Just our instruments.
8- How did you get Timo Wuerz to do the cover of "Quod..."?
Accidentaly a very close friend of mine from Germany, he told me that there is a series of comic stories that have some references to the Greek Band Astarte. From that point we came in contact with him and we made a proposal to creae our cover. And here we are.
He has done a great job and we manage to cooperate again in the future.
9- Which are your main influences?
We listen all kinds of metal. Our main influence is whatever sounds melancholic and epic. We like
soundtracs and old bands like Eloy, Uriah Heep, Metal Church.
10- Any final thoughts?
Well I want to thank you for all the interview. About our future plans I want to say that this period we have participate in a tribute to Celtic Frost. It will follow some great changes for our band future like a new Label and some other internal changes. I am also preparing a project band which will be into Raw metal. Different from Astarte but very aggressive. A female will play drums for this band. This will be announced soon officially.
